Granville County: Man, 40, shot and killed in Tar River Road area near Oxford, sheriff's office says

A 40-year-old man is dead after a shooting in the Tar River Road area near Oxford, the Granville County Sheriff's Office said, as reported by WRAL.

Deputies responded to the scene in the early morning hours of Sunday, Oct. 11, WRAL reported, citing the sheriff's office. Emergency medical personnel provided lifesaving measures, but the man was pronounced dead.

The sheriff's office says the case is being investigated as a homicide. A homicide investigation does not mean any particular person is guilty of a crime. No arrest has been announced. Everyone who might later become a focus of the investigation is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
