What happened
In Lumberton, Robeson County voters still have six in-person sites this month, and Tuesday is the last day the two-week rule leaves to request an absentee-by-mail ballot for Nov. 3.
A North Carolina State Board of Elections absentee-counts file, last modified at 4:40 a.m. Tuesday, listed 4,259 early-voting ballots for the county. That snapshot does not include most of Tuesday's in-person traffic.
The Robesonian, quoting Elections Director Jessica Davis, reported about 2,500 voters during the first two days last week. Davis said she had not yet run local statistics. Those are different counts from different days. We are not subtracting them.
Where to vote in person
The November site list names Pine Street Gym, 801 N. Pine Street; the Fairmont Fire Hall/Senior Citizen Center, 421 S. Main Street; Gilbert Patterson Library, 210 N. Florence Street, Maxton; the Pembroke Library, 413 Blaine Street; the Red Springs Community Center, 122 Cross Street; and the St. Pauls National Guard Armory, 705 N. Old Stage Road.
Weekday hours on that list run 8 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. through Friday, Oct. 30, except there is no Saturday, Oct. 18 or Oct. 24, session. Sunday, Oct. 25, is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, closes at 3 p.m., which matches the statewide cutoff.
The newspaper printed "8 p.m." as the weekday open. The official schedule starts at 8 a.m.
During this period, a voter may use any of those six buildings. On Nov. 3 they must go to their assigned precinct. Polls that day are 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Anyone already in line at closing may finish.
Bring an accepted photo ID. Same-day registration is available at these sites and is not available for most people once Election Day arrives.
Mail ballots
A mail-absentee request may be filed through votebymail.ncsbe.gov, or on a paper form sent to the county elections office, two weeks before Nov. 3. That date is Tuesday, Oct. 20. The pages we read did not print a clock time.
The same state file listed 93 civilian mail-absentee records for Robeson County as of that 4:40 a.m. snapshot, plus 6 military and 6 overseas rows.
