What happened
In Raleigh, partners break ground Wednesday on Chapanoke, a planned 200-apartment community at 326 Chapanoke Road.
Harmony Housing Affordable Development Inc. lists the ceremony at 10 a.m., with coffee from 9:30 a.m.
Gilbane Development describes one-, two- and three-bedroom rentals for households earning 30 to 70 percent of area median income. The firm says it is working with Harmony Housing and F7 International Development as Raleigh Community Partners LLC, on land that used to be public, next to Wake Tech's Public Safety Education Campus.
A July Gilbane release quoted Wake County housing official Mark Perlman saying the county put in the land and $7.1 million in gap financing, and that Wake Tech donated the site. An April 22, 2025, county awards post listed the same 200-unit project and a $7,100,000 loan.
Gilbane puts the budget at nearly $93 million, with Low-Income Housing Tax Credit equity plus public and private loans, four four-story buildings, and an early 2028 finish. WRAL, writing this morning, also described Wednesday's start, the 200 homes, the income band, and a 2028 opening if work stays on that timetable.
This is a ceremonial start, not move-in day.

Why it matters
Two hundred income-capped rentals on former public land next to Wake Tech is a large local housing project. Wednesday is the ceremonial start, not an opening date. Readers need the developers' and county's own figures, not a copied rendering.
