What happened

In Raleigh, Wake County commissioners on Monday approved a construction contract to replace EMS Station 5 on Hargrove Road.

The county's Oct. 19 announcement said the station dates to 1989 and was designed for a staff of two. That post put the current building at 2,000 square feet, with two vehicle bays. The replacement is planned at about 4,400 square feet and three bays, plus a day room, kitchen, multi-purpose room, wellness room, bathrooms and workspace for staff.

A March county post called the same site Mini City Station and said the board that day approved schematic design. The county project page lists 4704 Hargrove Road, says the 1989 building will come down, and says a new neighborhood station will be built there. During that work, the page says EMS is to cover the area from other stations.

Monday's announcement said work is expected to start in January 2027 and finish in early 2028. An older project schedule still showed a fall 2026 start; we are using the dates in the Oct. 19 post.

Chair Don Mial said the upgrade would give more EMS staff the space they need as the area grows.

The regular-meeting agenda listed the same item as awarding a contract for the Mini City replacement at that Raleigh site. Wake Weekly later reported the Monday vote and the January 2027 start.

The county has not posted who won the bid or what the contract costs.

Why it matters

EMS Station 5 covers a busy part of Raleigh from a 1989 building built for two people. Monday's vote is the construction contract, not a finished station. Readers need the county's dates and size, not a copied rendering caption.
