Why it matters

A Smithfield pedestrian was killed in a marked downtown crosswalk next to the courthouse. The case is now a conviction, with a short active sentence and an immigration detainer still in place. People who walk or drive that intersection need a clear account of what the prosecutor's office said is settled, and what still is not.
