What happened
Wake County commissioners will hold a public hearing Monday on a growth plan for unincorporated land between Wake Forest and Rolesville.
A required county notice, published today, says the Board of Commissioners will consider CPA-01-26 at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, in Room 2700 of the Wake County Justice Center. The item would adopt the Neuse North Area Plan as an amendment to PLANWake, the county comprehensive plan, and change the PLANWake Development Framework map.
The county's events calendar lists the same meeting time and room. As of this morning, the agenda packet was not yet posted on the county's Legistar calendar.
What the plan covers
Wake County's Neuse North page says the study area is about 17 square miles, or 10,890 acres, along the northern county line. It sits between Wake Forest and Rolesville and runs to the Franklin County boundary. The orange area on the county's map is land that is not inside a town or a town's extra-territorial jurisdiction, so only Wake County plans for it.
The county says this is the sixth of seven area plans under PLANWake, which the commissioners adopted in April 2021.
The county's own explainer says the plan does not annex anyone's property, rezone anyone's property, expand extra-territorial jurisdiction or raise taxes. It is meant to record a community vision and mark where growth should or should not go. The county says the plan can be amended after it is adopted.
How to comment
The public notice says people may review the petition on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. at Wake County Planning, Development and Inspections, on the first floor of the Wake County Office Building at 336 Fayetteville Street in Raleigh.
Written comments may go to Wake County Planning, Development and Inspections, attention Akul Nishawala, P.O. Box 550, Raleigh, NC 27602, or to akul.nishawala@wake.gov, the notice says. The county's plan page also lists areaplan@wake.gov and 919-856-6310.
The notice does not say whether the board will vote the same day.
Why it matters
The plan covers unincorporated land between Wake Forest and Rolesville, where county rules, not town zoning, decide what can be built. Monday's hearing is the public's chance to speak before commissioners consider adopting it.
