Background
Just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, officers responded to a shooting call in the 1900 block of Bain Drive, the department said in an Oct. 9 release published by CBS 17. They found a 32-year-old man inside a home with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police identified the man as Antonio Felton Williams Jr., 32, of Fayetteville, ABC11 and the Fayetteville Observer reported, citing a department update on Monday, Oct. 5.
Police announced Robinson's arrest on Oct. 9. McBride's arrest was announced a week later.
The charges
Police have listed these charges:
- Both men: first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony conspiracy
- McBride only: possession of a firearm by a felon
Those are accusations in charging papers. They have not been proven in court.
Under North Carolina law, first-degree murder includes a killing committed in the course of a robbery. Robbery with a dangerous weapon is a Class D felony. A conspiracy to commit a felony is charged one class below the underlying felony, except that a conspiracy to commit a Class A felony is a Class B2 felony. Possession of a firearm by a person previously convicted of a felony is a separate crime under state law. Officials have not said which part of those laws they are applying, or what they say was taken.

Police have not said what they believe happened inside the home or why. They have not released a motive, said how the two men charged are connected to each other or to Williams, or said what, if anything, was taken. We have not seen court dates for either man, and police have not said whether more arrests are expected.

The department's Oct. 9 release, as reported by CBS 17 and the Fayetteville Observer, said Oct. 3, and we are using that date.
