Instructions from N.C. Department of Transportation

This site is not NCDMV or NCDOT. For the current Raleigh IRP address, hours and later changes, use the Oct. 19 NCDOT notice and ncdot.gov/dmv. VisitDMV.nc.gov is the update page named in the earlier move notice. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911.

What happened

In Raleigh, the state's International Registration Plan office for commercial truck carriers is set to open Tuesday at a new address.

NCDOT said Monday that the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles would receive those customers at 3301 Terminal Drive, Suite 119. CBS 17, citing the division Tuesday morning, reported that the site had opened.

Hours in the Monday notice are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, except state holidays.

IRP is a registration reciprocity agreement. North Carolina takes part so a commercial carrier can pay plate fees based on miles run in the continental United States and Canada.

This is not a regular driver-license or license-plate agency. Passenger-car work still goes to those offices.

The prior Raleigh IRP counter, at 1425 Rock Quarry Road, Suite 100, closed for good on Sept. 24, according to an NCDOT update dated Oct. 1. That same notice had aimed for a reopen during the week of Oct. 5. Monday's release is the later date.

Carriers who cannot use the new site can still go to 6016 Brookshire Boulevard in Charlotte, the department said. The same weekday hours apply there.

The NCDMV commercial-trucking page we read Tuesday morning still listed the Rock Quarry address. Use Monday's NCDOT notice for the current Raleigh location. The department's IRP unit directory already shows Terminal Drive and lists 919-615-6700.

This site is not NCDMV or NCDOT. For rules, forms and later changes, use the division's commercial-trucking page and that same Monday notice. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911.

Why it matters

Carriers who need an IRP plate or a new account in Raleigh have a different street address than the one that closed in September. This office does not replace a regular driver-license or license-plate agency. The department's own service page still showed the old location when we checked.
