Wake County: Commissioners adopt the 2027 revaluation Schedule of Values
A legal notice says the board issued the order Monday, Oct. 19. The schedules take effect Jan. 1, 2027. Challenging the schedules is a different process from appealing a later notice of value.

What happened
In Raleigh, the Wake County Board of Commissioners adopted the rulebook for the 2027 real-estate revaluation at its Monday, Oct. 19, meeting.
A legal notice signed by Tax Administrator Marcus Kinrade says the board issued an order that day approving the Uniform Schedules of Values, Standards and Rules. Those schedules are to be used to value real property at true value and at present-use value as of Jan. 1, 2027. CBS17 also reported the Monday approval.
The county's own Schedule of Values page, when checked early Tuesday, still used older wording that the board would consider the document on Oct. 19. We are treating the signed notice as the record of the vote.
What Monday's order is, and is not
County tax pages describe that document as a manual of rates, ranges and guidelines for construction, market conditions and land. Commissioners have to approve it before it takes effect. A PDF is posted at wake.gov/sov.
Monday's action does not set a new tax rate, and it does not assign a household's 2027 assessed value. Those notices are not due until January.
County FAQ language treats a tax bill as assessed value times the rate that county and city elected officials set. Until the 2027 rate is adopted, the county says no one can know how a given bill will change.
Two different appeal paths
The notice says owners who say the schedules themselves are invalid may except to the order and appeal to the Property Tax Commission by Nov. 17, 2026. The schedules may be read at Tax Administration, 301 S. McDowell Street, Suite 3800, in the Justice Center, or at wake.gov/sov.
Appealing a later notice of value is a separate step. Staff are to present 2027 results to commissioners on Jan. 19, 2027, and notices should start reaching owners by Jan. 22. The planned deadline to take an individual value to the Board of Equalization and Review is April 30, 2027.
What happens to tax bills
Values on the books now come from Jan. 1, 2024. The Sept. 1, 2026, bills use those figures. Taxes due Sept. 1, 2027, will use the new values and the rates adopted in June 2027.
In March 2025, the board voted to move toward revaluing every two years. County answers say 2027 is next, and Jan. 1, 2029, is the first date on that shorter cycle.

Why it matters
Monday's order is the rulebook for how Wake County will appraise land and buildings as of Jan. 1, 2027. It is not a new tax rate and not a household's new value. Owners who want to challenge the schedules have a Nov. 17 deadline that is separate from next year's value appeals.
