What happened
In Raleigh, former Jeopardy! champion Philip Joseph "Joey" DeSena is charged with 10 felony counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, warrants reported by WRAL and The News & Observer show.
DeSena, 44, was arrested Friday on papers issued Thursday. A charge is an accusation. He is presumed innocent unless he is proven guilty in court.
We are not naming any children.
What the new papers allege
WRAL, citing the warrants, said he is accused of duplicating child sexual abuse material. The Observer, citing the same kind of court file, said the counts are for duplicating images and videos that showed children in sexually explicit situations, and that the papers described those children as between 7 and 15 years old.
The alleged date on the warrants is Nov. 19, 2025, WRAL wrote.
How investigators found the files has not been released.
Custody and court
He is held without bond. WRAL said he is scheduled to appear Monday, Oct. 26. The Observer wrote that he was in court Friday afternoon. Both can be true: a first appearance Friday, and another date Monday.
WRAL, citing court documents, said the new charges came while he was on probation.
The Currituck case
This is his second arrest in under a year, and both cases came while he lived in Raleigh.
WBTV, citing Currituck records in July, said he pleaded guilty on July 27, 2026, to two felony secret-peeping counts. That station said the sentence was five years of probation and that he was not required to register as a sex offender.
The same July account said he turned himself in on Dec. 1, 2025. The warrant, WBTV wrote, alleged that on Oct. 10, 2025, he put cameras in a bedroom and a bathroom at a house in Corolla, "with the intent to capture the image of another without their consent." A later indictment placed that house in Corolla. This story does not publish an address.
WRAL and the Observer both tied Friday's arrest to that probation.
Jeopardy!
He won two games in November 2024 and returned for the Champions Wildcard field in January 2025. Outlets disagree on a single prize total, so this file does not pick one.
