What happened

In Chapel Hill, the Town Council has opened the formal process for a rewrite of the Land Use Management Ordinance. The town has not adopted the new code.

The current ordinance dates to 2003, the town's project page says. That page listed a Wednesday, Oct. 21, council meeting at 6 p.m. at Town Hall and another council date on Nov. 18 at the same hour. It also listed a Planning Commission session Tuesday evening, Oct. 20.

The draft, the town says, is meant to carry out the Comprehensive Plan and the Complete Community strategy. More dates may be added if either board needs time.

Official hearings have started. The town is no longer collecting notes inside the draft file. It tells people to speak at the meetings or to email mayorandcouncil@chapelhillnc.gov.

ABC11, writing Wednesday evening, said the draft would allow more housing types, including triplexes and fourplexes, and that a vote could come as early as Nov. 18. It also said the text is not final. Chapelboro, reporting in July when the town first posted a public draft, likewise pointed to a November vote.

We have not read a recap of Wednesday's council discussion.
