What happened

In Greenville, Pitt County said Monday that Edgecombe Furniture plans a nearly $4 million expansion of its plant.

The 10 a.m. notice said the company bought a 140,000-square-foot building in 2017 and now intends to add 56,260 square feet plus a minimum of 10 positions. The Daily Reflector independently reported that announcement the same day.

A North Carolina Department of Commerce release dated Oct. 15 listed an $80,000 Building Reuse grant for that Greenville addition, 10 jobs, and $3,847,222 in investment. Monday's county wording for the same award used a rounded spending figure and "at least 10" jobs.

The Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, writing Oct. 16, put the building at 310 Staton Road. The Reflector described the 2017 purchase as a plant on that road north of town.

Commissioners approved a 5 percent local match on Oct. 2, the county wrote. Mary Walter, the company's chief financial officer, said in that notice that the work deepens the company's roots here. Kelly Andrews, who directs the county's development office, said officials are backing the company through the Commerce program.

The Reflector's Monday lede called the state grant $800,000. Later in the same article it used $80,000, which matches the county and Commerce figures. This file uses $80,000.
