Still unknown
- The cause of the fire

- How badly the home was damaged (CBS 17's "destroyed" / "heavily damaging" lede and ABC11's "put those flames out quickly" do not match)
- Whether anyone was inside, and whether two adults and a pet were displaced (CBS 17 and ABC11 say yes; WRAL later said officials had not confirmed occupancy)
- Whether neighbors heard an explosion (WRAL only)
- A written Raleigh Fire Department release we can read ourselves

What happened
In Raleigh, a garage fire spread into the attic of a home on Coleraine Court on Sunday afternoon, according to the Raleigh Fire Department as reported by CBS 17.
That CBS 17 account placed the call around 4 p.m. in the 8100 block, at a two-story house off Leadmine Road south of Strickland Road. ABC11 used the same block and wrote Lead Mine Road as two words.
The station said flames were already coming from the attached garage when crews arrived, that firefighters worked about 30 minutes before the fire reached the attic, that they were then pulled out of the building, and that the scene was under control about an hour after the first report. ABC11, citing the same agency, wrote that crews put the flames out quickly. Those two timelines do not match, so neither is treated as the clock. CBS 17's lede also said the fire destroyed the home; that is not treated here as a measured damage finding.
On occupancy, the two earlier station accounts and a later WRAL story do not agree. CBS 17 wrote that no one was hurt and that two adults and a pet were displaced. ABC11 repeated that displacement line. WRAL, posted at 10:01 p.m., independently confirmed a large fire on the same street after 4 p.m., with flames from a second-story window, and wrote that authorities had not confirmed anyone was home.
WRAL also wrote that neighbors reported hearing a loud explosion just before the flames, and that one neighbor said she saw a man with a dog leave. No departmental confirmation of that neighbor account has turned up here.
The three stations each left the cause under investigation. Officials released only the block, and this page does not print a house number.

What we don't know yet
Officials have not named a cause. How badly the house was damaged is also unclear, and WRAL's Sunday-night occupancy line does not match CBS 17 and ABC11. No written fire-department release is in hand.
What happens next
This story will be updated if officials post a cause, a damage estimate, or their own account of occupancy.

Why it matters
A Sunday afternoon house fire in north Raleigh left at least the garage and attic damaged, according to two stations citing the fire department. Neighbors and later WRAL copy still disagree with those stations on who was home. People on Coleraine Court need the department, not this page, for any remaining hazard.
