What happened
In Raleigh, a WRAL senior investigative producer is charged with felony stalking and violating a domestic violence protective order, according to arrest records.
Raleigh police took Randall Kerr into custody about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, inside the station's Western Boulevard lobby, arrest reports in The News & Observer say. WRAL reported that officers took him into custody that afternoon. A booking listing names the Raleigh Police Department as the arresting agency and shows he was booked the same day at the Wake County Detention Center.
Jail records show Kerr is being held with no bond, WRAL reported. The News & Observer, pointing to court filings and a first appearance, reported the same custody status. It attributed the hold to North Carolina's Iryna's Law, which treats stalking as a violent offense for pretrial release.
A charge is an accusation. Kerr is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. We have not found a public comment from him or from counsel.
What the warrant alleges
The arrest warrant accuses Kerr of driving within a 300-yard radius of a Wake County home on multiple occasions last week, WRAL reported. That warrant says the conduct broke a protective order.
Court papers described by The News & Observer list Tuesday, Oct. 13, as the date of the chargeable offense and say the order was entered on Jan. 27, 2026. The Desk, citing police records, also placed the alleged breach on Oct. 13. We are not identifying the person protected by the order and are not publishing a house number.
The charges
Records reported by WRAL, The News & Observer and the booking listing show two counts:
- Felony stalking
- A Chapter 50B protective-order violation, listed as a misdemeanor on the booking record
Under North Carolina law, stalking is a Class H felony when a court order already forbids the described conduct. Knowingly breaking a valid Chapter 50B order is generally a Class A1 misdemeanor.
What WRAL's parent company said
A staff message described an incident involving an employee at the Western Boulevard building and said that person is on leave from Capitol Broadcasting Company and is not allowed on the premises, The News & Observer reported. The Desk also reported that Kerr has been barred from the offices "at this time." The newspaper dated that message Tuesday. The Desk said an email went out Wednesday.
What happens next
From those court papers, The News & Observer reported a hearing on Friday, Nov. 6, at 9 a.m. We could not independently open the Wake County file. Whether Kerr has an attorney has not been released.
The Desk called the arrest a Wednesday event. Booking records, WRAL and The News & Observer put it on the 20th. We are using Tuesday.
We will update this story if the courts, Raleigh police or defense counsel release more. This story is not an official or emergency notice. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911.
