What happened

In Durham, Duke beat Army 84-50 on Monday night in its men's basketball opener at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The school's recap, statistical sheet and schedule all list that score. Duke is 1-0. Army is 0-1.

The Blue Devils led 33-18 at the break and scored 51 after that to the Black Knights' 32. The sheet lists no changes of the lead. Official attendance was 9,314.

Who scored

Dame Sarr led Duke with 16 points. He made all 5 of his shots and all 6 free throws.

Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje scored 15 and grabbed 7 rebounds. Patrick Ngongba II scored 10 and matched that board total. Cayden Boozer added 9.

Kevin McCarthy scored 17 for Army. Dillon Watt had 9. Ryan Curry finished with 7 points and 7 assists.

Duke shot 29 of 59 from the field and 22 of 26 free throws, with 37 rebounds, 16 steals and 50 points in the paint. Army shot 18 of 52 and turned the ball over 24 times.

Those turnovers became 29 points, the recap said, and Sebastian Wilkins had 4 steals in his first game. The Associated Press independently printed the 84-50 score and Sarr's 16 points.

How it opened

Duke jumped ahead 12-0, according to that write-up, and held Army without a field goal through the first media timeout. The visitors' first points came from the stripe at 15:33.

After intermission, an 11-0 burst that ended on a Boozer three made it 44-18.

The same recap listed the hosts as No. 2 and counted the result as Jon Scheyer's 125th win as head coach.

What's next

Duke hosts Coastal Carolina on Thursday at 8 p.m. in the same building, on ACC Network, according to the team's schedule.
