What happened

In Fayetteville, federal prosecutors said a grand jury has charged Robert Page, 52, of Cumberland County, in the Aug. 30 shootings and vehicle takings.

Wednesday's Eastern District notice dated that indictment Sept. 22. The counts are attempted carjacking, carjacking, firing a gun during a carjacking, and possessing a gun as a convicted felon.

WCTI12, writing early Thursday, independently used his name, age, and county, and listed those four counts.

CBS 17, posted later Thursday, used the same September date and the same federal counts. That page printed Robert Junior Page. The written release does not use Junior.

The first count accuses him of trying to take a Toyota 4Runner from two people at a Hardee's drive-through, intending to kill or seriously hurt them. One of those people was seriously injured, that notice said. WCTI12 independently used the 4Runner, the two people, the restaurant, Aug. 30, and a serious injury.

The next two counts accuse him of taking a Chevrolet Malibu from another person that morning and of shooting a woman while doing it. WCTI12 independently named that car and wrote that a woman was shot.

A fourth count says he possessed a gun that day after an earlier felony conviction.

All three people who were shot survived, the office, WCTI12, and CBS 17 each wrote.

A conviction on the carjacking counts can bring up to 25 years, the release said. Firing the gun during the Malibu taking carries a 10-year minimum and up to life. The felon-in-possession count can bring 15 years. CBS 17 used those ranges. WCTI12 mentioned life on the gun count and skipped the other numbers.

CBS 17, citing officials, put the first shooting at a home in the 700 block of Messenger Street just after 7 a.m., the 4Runner attempt at a restaurant in the 6300 block of Ramsey Street, and the third shooting in a Food Lion lot in the 900 block of McArthur Road. The written release we read does not print those blocks.

The same CBS 17 page, citing records, added a 2002 Sampson County breaking-and-entering conviction, pending sheriff's office and city charges that include three counts of attempted first-degree murder, a no-bond hold at the county jail, and a Dec. 18 state-court date. Those lines are CBS 17's.

An indictment is an accusation. He is presumed innocent. Triangle Local is not the U.S. Attorney's Office. If anyone is in danger, call 911.
