What this means for you

Instructions from Wake County Government news post, Oct. 28, 2026; Wake County EMS $60 Subscription Program page

This site is not Wake County EMS. A subscription is optional. Call 911 in an emergency whether you are enrolled or not. To enroll starting Nov. 1, use wake.gov/EMSFund or 844-239-6690. This site is not an emergency service.

What happened

In Wake County, the county says new members can enroll in the $60 EMS subscription for 2027 starting Nov. 1.

A Wednesday news post put the price at $60 a year for people who live in the county. The longer how-to page, fetched the same evening, lists the same price and the same Nov. 1, 2026, start for the 2027 year.

One payment covers everyone who lives in the household, the news item said, even if they are not immediate family. Members list those names when they sign up.

Subscribers must have medical insurance, including Medicare. Insurance is billed first. The subscription is then meant to cover the leftover copay on a covered trip.

Covered trips are medically necessary rides by county ambulances from inside Wake to the nearest appropriate hospital, both pages said. Non-emergency rides, air transport, and any other ambulance service are out.

That how-to page adds that coverage starts two days after the county accepts payment and ends Dec. 31, that Medicare patients may enroll, and that Medicaid patients may not. It also says a typical emergency transport can exceed $500. Wednesday's news item does not print that figure.

A subscription is optional. Crews will still respond if someone is not enrolled, the how-to page says.

Signup is listed at wake.gov/EMSFund, with 844-239-6690 as the phone line. The online activation code is listed as WAKE.

This site is not Wake County EMS. If anyone is in danger, call 911.

Why it matters

Wake County is reminding residents that a $60 household plan can cover ambulance copays in 2027. People need the official price, the Nov. 1 start, what is not covered, and that calling 911 does not require a subscription.
