What happened
In Raleigh, a Monday department statement and WRAL's records review now disagree on how many people were taken into custody in Glenwood South over Halloween.
CBS 17, citing the department, wrote that the weekend produced 26 arrests plus four citations there from Oct. 31 through Nov. 1. WRAL, still using arrest records on a page we reopened this afternoon, printed 14 on that street from late Saturday into early Sunday.
What WRAL's records showed
Seven of those 14, WRAL wrote, face simple affray. Court records on that page describe people hitting each other with their fists and hands in the middle of the street. Over the past 48 hours, the same records review put at least 15 people in custody in the area, on counts that also included resisting a public officer, being intoxicated and disruptive, and carrying a concealed gun. At least a dozen gun-related charges were filed downtown between Friday and Saturday, that file said.
A charge is an accusation. Everyone charged is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
Thousands packed the nightlife district Saturday, WRAL and ABC11 independently wrote. ABC11 reported a multi-agency deployment and a closure of Glenwood Avenue from Jones Street to Peace Street that evening, in part for Sunday's marathon.
What only the Monday statement adds
CBS 17 listed the department's weekend counts as six concealed-gun charges, two felony cocaine charges, two resisting charges, five assault charges, seven affray charges, three disorderly-conduct charges, and two property-damage charges, plus three citations for urinating in public and one alcohol citation.
That file also named helpers WRAL and ABC11 did not print together, including Cary police, Wake County ABC, and State Capitol Police. It quoted the department on keeping the city safe with those partners.
