What happened
In Raleigh, the Wake County Animal Center is charging $25 for senior dogs and $5 for senior cats throughout November, a Friday county news post says.
That Oct. 30 post frames the prices as Adopt a Senior Pet Month and applies them to dogs and cats ages 8 and older. CBS 17, posted at 4:47 a.m. Monday, restated the same fees, age cutoff and month-long window.
The Friday post listed, as of that morning, 92 dogs, two puppies, 34 cats, two kittens and one bird at the shelter, among them seven older dogs and one older cat. Foster homes held 34 dogs, 35 cats, 11 kittens and three rabbits, seven of those dogs also listed as seniors. Monday's CBS 17 file reprints those counts. This newsroom has not done a new count.
Adopted animals are spayed or neutered, microchipped and current on vaccines, both pages say.
Wake County Commissioner Susan Evans, quoted in that Friday post and again by CBS 17, said older pets "have plenty to offer" and that many already have established personalities.
The center takes adoptions from noon to 6 p.m. every day at 820 Beacon Lake Drive, near I-440 and New Bern Avenue.
