What happened
In Raleigh, Wake County plans to light the Justice Center green Nov. 4–11 for Operation Green Light, a Veterans Day week display tied to a national county campaign.
A county news release dated Nov. 4 said the lighting is part of Operation Greenlight, led by the National Association of Counties, and that residents and businesses can join by showing a green bulb at home or work during those dates. The county's Operation Greenlight page repeats the same Nov. 4–11 window for county buildings and the one-bulb request.
The release pointed veterans and families to Wake County Veterans Services for help with claims, paperwork, health-care enrollment information, housing resources, employment support and North Carolina benefits, and said appointments can be scheduled at wake.gov/veterans. Board of Commissioners Chair Don Mial, quoted in the release, said veterans should not have to navigate the benefits system alone.
The North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs separately said in a Nov. 3 release that it is taking part for the fifth straight year and encouraged the same green-bulb display outside homes and businesses statewide that week. That release said the department's Raleigh Seaboard Building headquarters, the Executive Mansion and NCSECU headquarters will be illuminated green, and that more than 682,000 veterans live in North Carolina.
