What happened
In Wake County, the Board of Commissioners awarded a $4.3 million construction contract for stadium work at Nomaco Park in Zebulon, according to a county news release dated Nov. 4.
That release said Muter Construction of Zebulon won the job, with a $1.3 million town contribution inside the total. The county's packet for the regular meeting on Nov. 2 asked the board to award $4,293,327 to Muter, let the county manager sign the contract, and accept $1,293,794 from Zebulon as its 15% share.
Both files describe the same fan-facing package: updates to arrival and ticketing areas, a flexible gathering space on the third-base side, a secure playground meant for use beyond game days, and renovations to the Sky Lounge for viewing and catering or events. Both put substantial completion in spring 2027. Staff writing for commissioners also expected a notice to proceed in November 2026.
Nomaco Park, once called Five County Stadium, is home to the Zebulon Devil Dogz of the Coastal Plain League, according to that Nov. 4 page, and under the county-town lease with Capitol Broadcasting it will also host Wake Technical Community College baseball, softball, and men's and women's soccer. That lease runs through Dec. 31, 2035, with $710,000 in rent over the term, an initial joint public investment of $8.26 million in improvements, and a $1.97 million Capital Repairs Fund.
Staff notes for the board added that CBC assigned the lease in December 2025 to Zebulon Stadium, LLC, which operates the Devil Dogz, and that the county and town boards approved the Nomaco Park name in June 2026.
Chair Don Mial, quoted on the county news page, said the work should give residents and visitors more reasons to gather at a place that reflects Zebulon's pride. Mayor Jessica D. Harrison, quoted there as well, said the ballpark matters to the town and thanked the county for partnering on changes aimed at families and business outings.
Later updates, the county wrote, will appear on its Facilities Design and Construction projects page. Posted minutes for that Nov. 2 consent item were still marked draft in Legistar when we checked.
